Dizzy Ring L-Bracket Clamp Sets
The Dizzy Ring L-Bracket Clamps were developed to enable the clamping of multiple rings together and eliminate the horizontal movement of the rings during the gluing of the multiple rings together. The Dizzy Ring Clamps consist of a 1.5" long brass sliding key that fits snugly into the optional T-Slot Channel. Three styles of the L-Bracket Clamps available which consist of a metal pin that provides the vertical clamp to hold the discs in place during the glue up. When inserted into the T-Slot channel, the brass thumb screw or set screw locks the Dizzy Ring Clamp into the channel to prevent it from sliding in the channel. The Dizzy Ring Set contains 4 of the Dizzy Ring Clamps (T-Slot Channel sold separately). Multiple Dizzy Ring Clamps are used with the T-Slot channels to produce jigs for the gluing up of sets of laminated discs to produce the dizzy bowl patterns.
- Standard L-Bracket Clamps - 1/4" diameter x 2" tall steel pin
- With 1/4" x 20 tpi set screw - Part # AS978-4
- With 1/4" x 20 tpi thumb screw - Part # AS985-4
- Large L-Bracket Clamps - 5/16" diameter x 3" tall steel pin
- With 5/16 x 20 tpi set screw - Part # AS988-4
Dizzy Ring Clamp Set Applications
Set of 4 Dizzy Ring Clamps (T-Slot Channel must be ordered separately - see below)
MDF round discs of various sizes can be used to produce a variety of sizes of jigs for the gluing up of different diameters of laminated discs. A table saw or preferably a router can be used to cut the dados into the MDF discs for the insertion of the T-Slot channels. It is recommended that the T-Slot channels be glued into the MDF slots with epoxy. It is important that the size of the MDF jig enables the addition of spring clamps as shown above.
As seen in Video 4 the L Bracket clamps are also available with set screws instead of the Thumb screws. The set screws clamp more tightly than the thumb screws but they do require a 1/8" allen wrench to lock them in place.
Accu-Slice does not produce the MDF boards or custom jigs shown above. We only supply the Dizzy Ring L-Bracket Clamps and the T-Slot channel that can be used to produce your own custom jigs for gluing up laminated discs for Dizzy Pattern projects or also for gluing up segmented discs for segmented woodturning projects.
For details on the use and application of the Dizzy Ring L- Bracket Clamps see the 4 videos listed in the "Videos" tab above.

T-Slot Channel
T-Slot Channel - 3/4" wide by 3/8" deep:
We recommend that the T-Slot Channels be used with the Dizzy Ring Clamps. The T-Slot channel is available in either 12" lengths or 36" lengths. The T-Slot Channel can be cut to any length desired and should then be glued into the channel in the MDF board to make a jig of your design as shown above.
Note: The Brass Sliding Keys are precision machined to snugly fit the T-Slot Channels that we provide. They will probably not fit in other manufacturers' T-Slot Channels since the dimensions my have different measurements on the inside of these channels.

Replacement Thumb Screws, Set Screws and Plastic Guard Tubing
Note: The Dizzy Ring 1/4" diameter L-Brackets use the 1/4" set screw or Thumb Screw and the 1/4" ID. diameter PVC sleeve. The Dizzy 5/16" diameter L-Brackets use the 5/16" set screw and the 5/15" I.D> diameter PVC sleeve.
The Dizzy Ring L-Bracket Clamps are supplied with either the thumb screws or set screws. Replacement thumb screws and set screws are also available should you loose these items or want to change a thumb screw model to a set screw model.
In a recent video we demonstrated the use of the PVC plastic sleeve to cover the 1/4" diameter pin on the Dizzy Ring L-Bracket Clamp. These sleeves not only protect the pins from glue buildup, but they also permit the more accurate alignment of the laminate discs during the glue up process. These sleeves also permit you to glue up more laminate discs at a time. This is demonstrated in video 5 of this series on the Dizzy Glue Up Jigs.

How to Use the Dizzy Ring Clamps
For more detailed explanations of the production and application of the Dizzy Ring L-Bracket Clamps and the jigs for gluing up the laminate discs see the 4 videos in the "Videos" Tab above.
From either MDF or plywood make a jig by cutting dado's to fit the T-Slot Channel. Slide in the Dizzy Ring Clamps and add a plastic disc which is slightly smaller than the laminated discs that you will be gluing together. The purpose of the plastic discs is to prevent the laminated disc from being glued to the MDF jig in the glue up process. It just makes cleanup much easier'
Add the first Laminated disc and adjust the Dizzy Ring Clamps to snuggly hold the disc in place. Center the disc and tighten the brass thumb screws to prevent the discs from sliding. The purpose of the four pins is to prevent the laminated discs from sliding during the glue up process.
Apply Glue to the discs as they are added (gluing not shown) and rotate the second disc to the appropriate angle. make sure that the clamps are tight to avoid any lateral movement of the discs during the gluing and clamping steps.
Continue to add glued laminate layers to the jig, rotating each layer to the appropriate angle. It is probably preferable to lightly clamp each layer for about a minute or two for the glue to set before the next layer is attached. Continue to add layers until 5 or 6 laminate layers have been added.
Add a second plastic disc to the top of the discs and apply spring clamps. Apply as many clamps as necessary to squeeze out the excess glue and evenly clamp the laminated discs. Double check each of the layers to make sure that the discs did not move in the clamping process. Normally after the glued laminated discs have been set for 5 or 10 minutes, I clamp the glued assembly in a press to make sure the discs are perfectly flat.
Below is shown a set of 5 laminated discs after glue up an sanding off the excess glue from the edges. Sets of these disc can then be glued together to prepare the dizzy bowl for subsequent turning on the lathe.
